On the surface, I was a smiling, self-assured people pleaser. But deep within my skull, a ticking timebomb of resentment was slowly burning its way to the surface.
I’d always been told it is easier to change ourselves than to expect the world to change for us. And so when the world shouted at me, I bent over backward to please it.
This proved to be a poor strategy and a recipe for self-victimization. And also the birth of my deep-seated misanthropy.

I was diagnosed with kidney failure at a young age, which meant I spent my “glory” years hooked up to a machine three times a week to clean my blood.
This also meant adhering to an oppressively strict diet. Failure to abide by this regimen meant hospitalization or death.
